Houndoom, the Dark Pokemon. Upon hearing its eerie howls, other Pokémon get the shivers and head straight back to their nests. The flames it breathes when angry contain toxins. If they cause a burn, it will hurt forever. Long ago, people imagined Houndoom's howls to be the call of the grim reaper.

Faust was the victim of superstition as a Houndour puppy - he wandered around Dimidium Town until he was driven out by the paranoid residents. When the Rangers picked him up, he was half-starved and mangy. They fed him and nursed him back to health, forever linking the Ranger uniform with 'good humans' in Faust's mind. When Bri as an eager young recruit came to be assigned a partner, it ended up being Faust. He is usually rather optimistic for such a frightening-looking pokemon, but immediately turns vicious when presented with someone abusing pokemon. Sometimes when he catches the scent of a criminal, he bolts ahead after them without waiting for Bri to climb on his back. He wears a Life Orb around his neck to boost his attacks in battle - Bri doesn't like that kind of item, but Faust knows his attacks aren't as powerful as some of the pokemon he'll have to face so he uses it anyway.
